MAAC Offensive Player of the Year Jamie Darvill Headlines 2009 All-MAAC Men's Soccer Teams

Fairfield, Conn. - Loyola University senior forward Jamie Darvill has been named the 2009 MAAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year by the league's head coaches and headlines this season's All-MAAC First Team.

Darvill earned this award for the second straight season after leading the MAAC in scoring during the regular season.  He has recorded 10 goals and nine assists for 29 points this season for the Greyhounds.

Fellow Greyhound Tennant McVea was named the 2009 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year.  McVea, a senior defender, won this award for the third consecutive year after helping Loyola go 6-1-2 in conference play as well as earning the second seed in the 2009 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship. 

Siena College's Emery Welshman earned 2009 MAAC Rookie of the Year honors.  The freshman midfielder/forward recorded six goals and three assists for 15 points this season, placing him eighth on the MAAC scoring list.

Joining Darvill at the forward position on the All-MAAC First Team are Alan McGreal from Canisius College, Giovanni Destasio from Iona College and Mauricio Jimenez from Saint Peter's College.  At the midfield are Fairfield University's Matthew Uy, Marist College's Krystian Witkowski and Niagara University's Levi Tesch.  McVea, Fairfield's Jack Cleverley and Saint Peter's College's Lebogang Pila represent the backs. Fairfield's goalkeeper Michael O'Keeffe rounds out the All-MAAC First Team.  

The All-MAAC Second Team includes Roberto Hernandez from Iona, Anthony DiBiase from Niagara, Andrew Cotes from Rider University and Nick Viaggio from Siena at back.  The midfielders consist of Iona's Alvaro Torrecilla, Fernando Liserra and Mario Rios as well as Loyola's Mike Deasel.  At forward are Welshman, Erik Ilisije and Chris Uy from Fairfield, Mario Di Miceli from Iona, Phil Bannister from Loyola and Udi Naim from Saint Peter's.  Iona's Nils Binstock serves as goalkeeper on the Second Team.

Headlining the All-Rookie team at back are Adam Cowen from Fairfield, Robbie Krohmer from Iona, Gerwyn Jones from Loyola and Jannis Opalka from Siena.  The midfielders include Torrecilla, Michael Eager from Fairfield and Sindre Ek from Siena.  Welshman, Di Miceli, Marist's Stephan Brossard and Niagara's Bryan DaCruz are the forwards, while O'Keeffe claimed the goalkeeper duties.

Iona head coach Fernando Barboto was named the 2009 Anaconda Sports MAAC Coach of the Year.  In his seventh season, he has led the Gaels to an overall record of 14-2-2, including an 8-1 mark in the MAAC, en route to earning the regular season title and the top seed in the 2009 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship.
