New Rochelle, N.Y. (January 30, 2012) -- Iona College announced today the signing of a multi-year contract extension with Tim Cluess, head coach of the Iona men's basketball program, effective January 1, 2012¬-June 30, 2017.

Cluess, named the 12th head coach at Iona in April 2010, led the Gaels to a 25-12 mark in his first season and cemented appearances in the MAAC and CollegeInsider.com Post-season Tournament Championship Games.

"Coach Cluess not only has a proven track record of success throughout his 21-year coaching career but, more importantly, he is also a man of the highest character and integrity consistent with the vision of Iona College," said Iona College President Joseph E. Nyre. "I am grateful to our loyal alumni whose support ensures the sustenance and excellence of Iona athletics."

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to continue to build on the development of our program in conjunction with Iona's long-term vision," said Cluess. "The ability to lead these fine student-athletes as we fight for a MAAC championship and NCAA Tournament bid each year is a challenge that I wholeheartedly look forward to today, and for seasons to come."

Cluess came to New Rochelle with an impressive 20-year coaching resume, the last four seasons as head coach at Suffolk Community College and C.W. Post in Brookville, NY. He amassed a 120-33 record in those five years and, combined with his high school record, won more than 77 percent of his games coached.

His Iona career highlights to date include earning 40 wins in 56 games ranking him the third fastest men's basketball head coach in Iona history to achieve this record following ninth head coach, Tim Welsh (53 games), and first coach, Br. Arthur Loftus (55 games).
