Three Qualify for NCAA Outdoor Championships

Edison, NJ - Three MAAC competitors qualified for the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships this weekend at the East Preliminary. The NCAA Championships will be held from June 6-9 at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
Iona College's Mitch Goose qualified in the men's 5000-meter run after finishing fourth in the first heat in a time of 14:17.74. Goose finished 15th overall in the East.
Manhattan College's Anastas Papazov uncorked a best effort of 64.73 meters (212 feet, four inches) to place sixth in the hammer throw and punch his ticket to the National Championships. After a foul on his first attempt, Papazov moved into 15th place (the top 16 received an additional three throws) with a 61.16m (200'8) effort on his second throw. Papazov then improved his mark to 62.97m (206'7), putting him in ninth place going into the final three throws. His best throw came in the fourth round, moving Papazov up even further and securing his place at Nationals.
Saint Peter's College's Isaiah Harris finished in 11th place in the triple jump with a leap of 15.57 meters at the East Preliminaries to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Harris is the first Peacock to ever qualify for the Championships.
