From reports from Fairfield and Manhattan Media Relations:

The MAAC has representatives on various teams that will be competing in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Fairfield University men's soccer senior goalkeeper Michael O'Keeffe (Christchurch, New Zealand) earned one of the 18 roster spots on the 2012 New Zealand Olympic Team, which will compete in London. O'Keeffe played 30-plus minutes in an Olympic warm up game against the Korea Republic. He took over for injured starting goalkeeper Jake Gleeson in the 58th minute, where he yielded one goal and made two saves. The team opens the Olympic competition on July 26 against Belarus, one day before the Opening Ceremonies. New Zealand will also play Egypt (July 29) and Brazil (August 1) to complete group play. The quarterfinals will begin on August 4, with the semifinals taking place on August 7. The Bronze medal game is slated for August 10, followed by the Gold medal game on August 11. O'Keeffe was a key player in Fairfield University's 2011 MAAC championship season, helping the Stags earn a berth to the 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship. He was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year and secured an All-MAAC first team berth for the third straight season.

Manhattan College assistant track & field coach Joe Ryan has been appointed as a team official for the delegation from Guyana at the 2012 London Olympics. Ryan will march in the Opening Ceremony on July 27 and be in London throughout the Games. This marks the second straight Olympics in which Ryan will be a part of the Guyanese delegation. He was the head coach of Guyana's track & field team at the 2008 Games in Beijing.

Among the athletes representing Guyana in London is former Manhattan star Aliann Pompey. Pompey, who has continued to work with Ryan since her graduation, is now a four-time Olympian. She made the semifinals of the 400 meters at both the Beijing Games and the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
