Edison, N.J. - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference has announced the addition of Butler University as an associate member of the MAAC for women's golf, starting competition in the 2012-13 season.
"We are excited that the Butler women's golf program will be joining the MAAC as an associate member," Theresa Berg, Associate Athletic Director at Niagara University and chair of the MAAC Women's Golf Committee, said. "With the addition of Butler the competition for a MAAC Championship will be elevated. With the loss of Boston University this move allows our MAAC Champion to continue to receive a NCAA automatic bid which is so important to MAAC membership and our women's golf programs."
Last season, Butler won the 2012 Horizon League Women's Golf Championship, the school's sixth league title in eight years. This past spring, the Bulldogs competed in the 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Central Regional at The Ohio State University and finished in 23rd place, one spot ahead of Siena College, who is the 12-time defending champion in the MAAC and the first MAAC women's golf team to compete in an NCAA Championship with the conference's automatic bid to the tournament.
The 2013 MAAC Golf Championships will take place April 26-28 at Walt Disney World's Palm Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
