Edison, NJ - Marist College's Kate Conard was named the MAAC Women's Swimmer of the Week, while Loyola University Maryland's Brennan Morris earned the award on the men's side. Siena College's Hailey Beers was chosen as the Women's Diver of the Week, and Marist's Josh Dodway was selected as the Men's Diver of the Week.
In Marist's road meet versus Fordham University, Conard earned a pair of wins continuing her dominance of distance freestyle events with wins in the 500-yd and 1000-yd freestyle races. In the 500-yd free, she beat the field by almost six seconds with a final time of 5:04.71. In the 1000-yd race, she won by over 10 seconds with a result of 10:23.42. In Conard's third race, she nearly came from behind to win the 200-yd IM as she closed the final 50 yards with a 28.91 split to finish just .16 seconds out of first place with a final time of 2:11.50.
On the men's side, Brennan Morris earned nine first-place finishes by sweeping the 200 IM, 500 freestyle and 1000 freestyle events against Drexel, Lafayette and Seton Hall Saturday. Morris touched first in the 200 IM with a final time of 1:55.25 and the 1000 free in 9:36.34. He won his 13th-straight 500 free race with a time of 4:42.60 - a streak that dates back to 2010, his sophomore season. He also anchored the 200-yd medley relay team to a third-place finish in 1:37.47.
In Siena's dual meet win against Holy Cross, Beers swept both diving events while not attempting a dive less than a degree of difficulty under 2.0. In the 1-meter event, Beers scored a 211.55 and averaged a degree of difficulty of 2.16. Her best event came on the 3-meter board, where she had a season best score of 246, which she won by over 100 points with the degree of difficulty spanning from 2.1-2.4.
A week after his first collegiate win, Dodway lead a strong showing by Marist divers in their road meet at Fordham. In the 1-meter board, he finished first with 281.70 points, a total that qualified him for the 2013 ECAC Championships. In the 3-meter event, he totaled 238.43 points, just missing the sweep of both boards by 9.0 points.
The 2013 MAAC Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships will be held February 14-16 at the Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo, N.Y.
