Loudonville, N.Y. - Siena junior Taylor Akana is one of just six Capital One Academic All-District I volleyball selections. By virtue of being a First Team honoree representing District I, she advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot where First, Second and Third Team All-America honorees will be named later this year.

The 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America and recognize the nation's top student athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The Academic All-District Team includes student athletes from eight different geographic districts across the United States and Canada.

Akana (Kaneohe, Hawaii) has lived up to her billing as MAAC Preseason Player of the Year. Earlier this season, she became the fastest in MAAC history to 1,000 kills - doing so in the 65th match of her career. She is on the doorstep of becoming just the fourth player (and first junior) in program history to join the 1,000-kill, 1,000 dig club, entering this weekend's matches at Rider and Loyola with 988 digs.

Akana has been named MAAC Player of the Week twice this season. Last year she was honored as the league's Offensive Player of the Year, and as a freshman she led the MAAC and ranked 12th nationally with 4.48 kills per set.

In the classroom, Akana's achievements have been equally impressive. She boasts a 3.80 GPA as a marketing and management major and is on pace to graduate next December.

Akana and the Saints have already locked up a bid in next weekend's MAAC Championships. They could claim a share of the league's regular-season title depending on this weekend's outcomes.
