2012 Volleyball All-MAAC Teams Announced

Fairfield, Conn. - Niagara University's Kari Honomichl has been named the 2012 MAAC Player of the Year by the league's head coaches and headlines this season's All-MAAC teams.

Honomichl, a senior outside hitter from Petersburg, Michigan, led the MAAC with 4.40 points per set and 299.0 total points in league play. She was named the 2011 MAAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player and was also selected to the Preseason All-MAAC Team in 2012. Honomichl was also selected to the All-MAAC First Team in 2012 and All-MAAC Second Team in 2009 as a freshman.

Fairfield University's junior Rachel Romansky earned her second consecutive MAAC Setter of the Year honors. The Denver, Colorado native was second in the league in assists per set with 11.56 and total assists with 728 on the season. She was named to the Preseason All-MAAC Team and was a member of the 2011 All-MAAC Second Team. Romansky was also named to the 2011 and 2010 MAAC All-Tournament Teams and was named Player of the Week on Oct. 22.

Siena College's senior Lesli Akeo was chosen as the 2012 MAAC Libero of the Year. She ranks fifth nationally with 6.07 digs per set and led the MAAC with 6.47 digs per set in conference matches. The native of Kapolei, Hawaii was the Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2011 and was named Libero of the Week twice this season on Sept. 17 and Oct. 22.

Manhattan College's Sydney Volovski was named the MAAC Rookie of the Year. She ranked second on her team with 293.5 total points. The Oswego, Illinois native was named Rookie of the Week three consecutive weeks this season on Sept 24., Oct. 1 and Oct. 8.  

Joining Volovski on the MAAC All-Rookie Team are Fairfield University's Nicole Marzik, Iona College's McKenzie Humann, Niagara University's Taylor Edmonds, Rider University's Nicole Moorman, Saint Peter University's Lauren Behrens, and Siena College's Meghann Wright.

The All-MAAC First Team consists of Canisius College's Samantha Good, Fairfield University's Brianna Dixion, Romansky, and Caitlin Stapleton, Niagara University's Honomichl, and Siena University's Taylor Akana and Akeo.

The All-MAAC Second Team features Canisius College's Allyson Severyn, Iona College's Catrina Warren, Loyola University's Jac Bullock, Manhattan College's Mariana Furquim, Niagara University's Michelle James and Ellen Senf, and Siena University's Colleen Ahearn.

Fairfield head coach Alija Pittenger was selected as the 2012 Anaconda Sports MAAC Coach of the Year. Pittenger led the Stags to a 15-3 conference mark and 20-8 overall record in her fifth year at the helm. She was also named the 2011 Anaconda Sports MAAC Coach of the Year last season.
