Siena Earns 3-1 Win Over Canisius in MAAC Semifinal

Fairfield, Conn. - Second-seeded Siena College claimed a 3-1 victory over third-seeded Canisius College in the second semifinal of the 2012 MAAC Volleyball Championship at Alumni Hall on the campus of Fairfield University.

Siena took the first set, 25-22, after a hard-fought opening set by both teams. The set was tied on five separate occasions, but the Saints had the advantage on kills (21-8) and attacks (51-38).

The Saints took the second set, 25-13, but the Griffs would not relent, taking the third set, 25-23. Siena was victorious in the fourth and final set, 25-20.

Taylor Akana contributed a season-high 26 kills and 11 digs, while Lesli Akeo, the MAAC Libero of the Year, added 26 digs. Jacqueline Skeen posted 14 kills, and Colleen Ahern recorded 11 kills.

Samantha Good registered 12 kills in her final game for Canisius, and Allyson Severyn had a game-high 31 digs.

Siena, making its ninth appearance in the MAAC final, will face top-seeded Fairfield on Sunday, November 18 at 1:00 p.m. The winner of that match will earn the MAAC's automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship.
