Fairfield Wins 2012 MAAC Volleyball Championship

Fairfield, Conn. - Top-seeded Fairfield University earned its sixth MAAC title with a 3-2 victory over second-seeded Siena College in the title game of the 2012 MAAC Volleyball Championship at Fairfield's Alumni Hall.

The Saints won the first two sets - 25-20 and 27-25 - but the Stags prevailed in the final three sets - 25-21, 25-20 and 15-11 - to capture their first MAAC crown since 2001.

In today's contest, Brianna Dixion recorded 17 kills for Fairfield, while Hayley Moyer and Marilyn Peizer each registered 11 kills. Rachel Romansky contributed 47 assists and 22 digs on the day.

Taylor Akana posted a game-high 19 kills and 23 digs, and Lesli Akeo had a game-high 34 digs for Siena.

Dixion was named the Most Valuable Player of the championship, joining Peizer and Romansky on the All-Tournament Team. Siena was represented by Akeo and Jacqueline Skeen. Canisius College's Samantha Good and Niagara University's Kari Honomichl rounded out the members of the All-Tournament Team.

Fairfield has earned the MAAC's automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship. The bracket announcement for the 2012 NCAA® Division I Women's Volleyball Championship will take place on Sunday, Nov. 25 at 4 p.m. on ESPNU.
