Schiro & Cottam Earn Capital One Academic All-America® Honors

Edison, N.J. - Senior forwards Nichole Schiro of Loyola University Maryland and Abi Cottam of Rider University were named the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Women's Soccer First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Cottam is the lone repeat selection on the Capital One Academic All-America® Women's Soccer Division I first team. The native of Leominster, England, carries a 3.99 G.P.A. majoring in psychology and was a candidate for the 2012 Lowe's Senior CLASS award. Cottam led Rider to a 10-4-3 record this season, the most wins for the program since 2004. She led the MAAC in assists and was fifth in points per game. Cottam scored four goals with seven assists for 15 points. A first team All-MAAC selection as a junior and senior, the Leominster, England finished her career as Rider's all-time leader with 26 assists. She also scored 26 goals in her career, the third-highest total in school history.

Schiro, who has a double major in biology and pre-medicine with a 3.88 G.P.A., was named as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year for a conference record third straight season. The native of Okemos, Mich., scored the game-winning goal in the 2012 MAAC championship match as Loyola claimed the program's 10th title. Schiro, who was a candidate for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, scored 15 goals with four assists for 34 points as a senior. A three-time All-MAAC first team pick, she led the conference in scoring. Schiro is Loyola's career leader with 51 goals and 117 points. She led Loyola to a 12-6-4 record and an NCAA Tournament appearance.
