Player of the Week
Derek Needham, Fairfield, Sr., G, 5-11, Dolton, Ill./ DeLaSalle HS

Needham averaged 20.5 points and 8.5 assists per game as the Stags posted a 1-1 record last week. He started the week with a 29-point performance against DePaul University, making 11 of 16 shots from the floor and four of eight from three-point range. He recorded eight assists with a pair of steals against DePaul. He followed with a 12-point night at Austin Peay, also registering nine assists, two steals and four rebounds. For the week, Needham shot 55 percent from the floor (16 of 29).


Rookie of the Week
Marcus Gilbert, Fairfield, Fr., G, 6-6, 185, Smyrna, Del./Academy of New Church

Gilbert scored a personal-best 11 points in his first start as the Stags defeated Austin Peay University to finish the week at 1-1. The freshman made four of nine shots and three of six three pointers against the Governors. Against DePaul, he tallied eight points by making three of four shots and two of three three-point field goals with a career-high five rebounds. For the week, Gilbert averaged 9.5 points with three rebounds and a steal over two games. He shot 54 percent from the floor and 55 percent from three-point range.
