Edison, NJ - Canisius College's Shawn Parkhurst was named the MAAC Men's Swimmer of the Week, while Siena College's Kaela Bjornberg earned the award on the women's side. Canisius' Eddie Quarantillo was chosen as the Men's Diver of the Week, and Canisius' Audrey Mulhisen was selected as the Women's Diver of the Week.
At the Cleveland Dual Meet Invite on Tuesday, Parkhurst broke a program record for the second-straight meet with his second-place finish in the 200-freestyle with a time of 1:43.23. In the Golden Griffins' home finale against SUNY Geneseo on Saturday, Parkhurst secured the top spot in the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 9:49.74 with a season-best performance. He also placed first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:53.50.
In Siena's win over Sacred Heart, Bjornberg won a season-high three individual events and one relay. The senior won the 100 breast in 1:10.34 and the 200 breast in 2:30.67. Bjornberg was also finished first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:16.68, four seconds faster than any other swimmer. The three individual wins puts her career total to 35 individual victories. Also, she was a member of the winning 200 medley relay with her team finishing with a total time of 1:53.66.
Quarantillo placed first in the 1-meter event with a season-best score of 271.43 in the Golden Griffins' home finale at the Koessler Athletic Center on December 8th against SUNY Geneseo. At the Cleveland Dual Meet Invite on Decemeber 4th against host Cleveland State University, John Carroll, Case Western Reserve and Notre Dame College, Quarantillo placed third in the 1-meter event with a score of 269.10, his previous season high.
After winning the 1-meter and 3-meter board events against Binghamton on December 2nd, Mulhisen set the Koessler Athletic Center pool record in the 3-meter event with a first-place finish. She went on to dominate the boards at the Cleveland Dual Meet Invite, hosted by Cleveland State on Tuesday, setting both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving school records. The freshman captured first in the 1-meter with a score of 235.55 followed by a second-place performance in the 3-meter by posting a tally of 250.65. Mulhisen broke both former Griff Kaeli Abdo's records, which stood since 2007-08. In the Golden Griffins' home finale against SUNY Geneseo at the KAC, Mulhisen broke her own pool record with a first-place score of 257.55.
The 2013 MAAC Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships will be held February 14-16 at the Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo, N.Y.
