Edison, NJ - Rider University's Johnny Funk was named the MAAC Men's Swimmer of the Week, while Loyola University's Caitlin Cronin earned the award on the women's side. Rider's Trevor Hiller was chosen as the Men's Diver of the Week for the fourth time this season, and Marist College's Kimberly Tobias was selected as the Women's Diver of the Week for the fifth time this season.
In Rider's win against Loyola on Saturday, Funk won three individual events and one relay event. He won both backstroke events, finishing 100-yard event in a time of 53.68 and the 200-yard event in 1:58.55. Funk touched first in the 200 IM, clocking in at 1:54.79. He also helped the 400 medley relay to a Coppola pool record with a final time of 3:28.32.
Cronin swept all three individual freestyle events she competed in at Rider on Saturday. Cronin touched first in the 200 yard freestyle in 1:55.88 and followed that up with a win in the 50 yard freestyle (25.43) and 100 yard freestyle (54.71). In relay events, Cronin anchored the 200 yard freestyle team to a second-place finish in 1:43.07.
In MAAC action this past weekend in Lawrenceville Hiller won both diving events. The junior earned 278.10 points in the 1-meter event, while scoring 326.02 points in his 3-meter board win.
Tobias swept both of the boards versus Southern Connecticut State on Saturday. In 1-meter action, she won with a final score of 273.82 finishing 39.69 points ahead of second place. In a closer 3-meter competition, she held off a pair of SCSU Owls with a 247.72 point effort.
The 2013 MAAC Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships will be held February 14-16 at the Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo, N.Y.
