Iona Hosts MAAC Basketball Doubleheader Friday

Edison, N.J. - Iona College's Hynes Center is the site for the next MAAC men's and women's basketball doubleheader to air this season on the ESPN platforms on Friday, January 18.

The women's game between Fairfield University and Iona will take place at 6:00 p.m., and can be seen live on ESPN3.

Fairfield, 9-6 overall and 3-1 in the MAAC, is led by junior forward Katie Cizynski, who is registering 12.0 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, and junior forward Brittany Obi-Tabot, who is averaging 10.4 points and 5.3 caroms a night for the Stags. Iona, 8-7 overall and 3-1 in the MAAC, is led by sophomore guard Damika Martinez, who is contributing a league-high 17.3 points while adding 5.5 rebounds per game, and freshman forward Joy Adams, who is posting 13.1 points and a conference-best 9.5 rebounds an outing for the Gaels.

The men's contest between the Stags and the Gaels will start at 9:00 p.m., and air live on ESPNU.

Fairfield, 10-8 overall and 2-4 in the MAAC, is led by senior guard Derek Needham, who is averaging 13.4 points and 3.6 assists per game, as well as junior forward Maurice Barrow, who is contributing 8.4 points and 3.3 rebounds an outing for the Stags. Iona, 11-6 overall and 5-1 in the MAAC, is led by senior guard Lamont Jones, who is averaging a league-best 22.0 points along with 4.3 assists an outing, and junior guard Sean Armand, who is netting 18.9 points and grabbing 5.8 caroms a night for the Maroon and Gold.
