Edison, N.J. - Bob McCloskey Insurance, a corporate partner of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, has awarded post-graduate scholarships to Marist College’s women’s soccer notable Jacqueline Frey and Siena College’s softball standout Shannon Jones.

As part of its agreement with the MAAC, Bob McCloskey Insurance provides post-graduate scholarships to two student-athletes from the league's member institutions. The intent of the scholarship is to promote and encourage academically and athletically accomplished student-athletes to continue their education by attending graduate school. As part of the selection process, the committee evaluates athletic and academic achievements, as well as campus involvement, community service, volunteer activities and demonstrated leadership.

Frey, a four-year starter for the Red Foxes, was actively involved with the Ladies Empowerment Athletic Program (L.E.A.P.), an organization for Marist female student athletes with the aim of promoting leadership and community involvement. In her senior year, she was a member of the L.E.A.P. administrative board and helped to organize several community events such as a Girl Scout sports clinic and events at the Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie and Vassar Warner Home. During her time at Marist, Frey was a member of the 2011 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship Team and is in the top 10 in goals and points in Marist’s career records. She was the recipient of the Katherine Connor Memorial Scholarship, which is given to a student who demonstrates high academic achievement and extensive community involvement. Frey graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in social work and has been admitted into the Masters of Social Work Program at New York University this fall.

Jones, a four-year starter and a former three-year captain for the Saints softball team, was a candidate for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes student-athletes who have notable achievements in the community, classroom, character and competition. On the field, Jones was the most accomplished player in Siena’s history. She was the first softball player at Siena to be named MAAC Player of the Year and also was named Siena College Female Student Athlete of the Year in 2012. Jones was a three-year member of Siena’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and also was the co-founder of the Student Athlete Mentoring Program. As an undergraduate, she was a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House, a program that offers rooms to families of pediatric patients. Jones earned a spot on Siena’s Dean's Honor List for three semesters and the President’s List for two semesters, as well as a three-time member of the MAAC All-Academic Team and member of the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District First Team. She graduated in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in biology and a concentration in psychology. Jones is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Sage College.
