Disney Golf Extends Contract with MAAC Through 2018
Release: August 19, 2013
Edison, N.J. – Walt Disney World Golf announced a four-year contract extension with the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference to host the men’s and women’s golf conference championships through 2018.
As part of the renewed agreement, the MAAC Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships will swing into action at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course in 2015 and 2016 and move back to Disney’s Palm Golf Course in 2017 and 2018. Both courses are operated by Arnold Palmer Golf Management.
“2014 will mark the tenth time the MAAC hosts its men‘s and women’s golf championships at the Palm or Magnolia golf course at Disney,” noted MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. “The championships are played at two of the finest PGA courses in the country and the league’s student-athletes and coaches look forward to returning through 2018 with the contract extension with Walt Disney World Golf.”
The 2014 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships will take place April 25 – 27 at Disney’s Palm Golf Course. The course is currently being renovated and will re-open at the end of 2013 as an Arnold Palmer Signature Course. The complete course re-design includes overhauled green complexes with subtle run off areas, newly placed fairway bunkering, and new tee locations.
Tyler Hitchcock, the tournament coordinator at Magnolia, Palm and Oak Trail Courses said, “We here at Disney Golf are always excited to welcome back the MAAC Championships year after year and are thrilled to extend our partnership with the conference through 2018. We look forward to playing host to some of the best collegiate players and teams every spring and offering a challenging venue for them to compete on.”
With the contract extension, the MAAC will also continue its relationship with ESPN Wide World of Sports’ Broadcast Center and ESPN for coverage of the championship. Last year, highlights from the first two days of competition aired on MAAC.TV, as well as the in-house television feed at Disney properties. ESPN3 featured all golfers on 18th hole on the final day of competition.
"The contract extension to continue the MAAC golf championships at the Disney’s Palm and Magnolia Golf Courses is great news for the student athletes and coaches in the conference, said Don Harnum, Director of Athletics at Rider University and chairman of the league’s men’s golf committee. Both are PGA tour quality golf courses and the staff has been totally committed to running a first class Division I golf tournament."
