Edison, N.J. – Manhattan College’s Mikael Rojeras and Quinnipiac University’s Jess Soja have earned the MAAC Cross Country Runner of the Week award for the week of September 10th.
Rojeras (Sala, Sweden), was the top Division I finisher at the St. John’s/Hofstra Fall Festival on Saturday. The senior lead the charge for Manhattan, and helped set the pace to capture the team title. His time of 15:35.60 was good for a second overall finish in the 5k race.
Senior Jess Soja (Simsbury, Connecticut), shot out of the gates strong with a time of 18:32.4 in her first event of the season at the Shawn M. Nassaney Memorial Race, hosted by Bryant University. She posted her fourth career Top-10 finish as she crossed the line in ninth place overall out of 100 total runners. Her finishing time in the 5k event is a significant improvement from her time of 18:49.9 in the 2012 Nassaney Memorial Race. Her strong performance helped set the table for the Bobcats who finished second as a team, ahead of No. 25 nationally-ranked Boston College. The monumental achievement came against a Golden Eagle team that finished 2012 in 19th place at the NCAA Championship.
The 2013 MAAC Cross Country Championships will be held on Friday, November 1st at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y.
