EDISON, N.J. – The Canisius men’s basketball team will play at Rutgers on Monday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the opening round of the 2013 NIT Season Tipoff Tournament. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.

Canisius, picked to finish third in the MAAC men’s basketball coaches’ preseason poll, will play either Drexel or Elon the following day at the Rutgers Athletic Center in the “North” bracket.

Coach Jim Baron will lead Canisius in its first appearance in the NIT Season Tip-Off since the 1995-96 season, when the Golden Griffs advanced to the second round with a win over Penn, before falling to George Washington.

The winners of the first two rounds will advance to Madison Square Garden to the semifinals on Nov. 27. The consolation and championship games will be played Nov. 29. The remaining teams will play third and fourth round contests on Nov. 25 and 26, at the campuses of the three highest remaining seeds. Participating teams will not play any team twice, and the third and fourth rounds will be assigned to the most geographically compatible sites possible.

The Golden Griffs open their regular season on Nov. 11 when they host South Dakota, and then travel to St. Bonaventure on Nov. 16, before beginning play in the Pre-Season NIT.
