MAAC Reveals Women’s Basketball Preseason Second Team

Edison, N.J. - The MAAC reveals the 2013-14 MAAC Women's Basketball Preseason Second Team, as selected by the league's 11 women’s basketball head coaches.

The Preseason Second Team includes Fairfield University senior center Brittany Obi-Tabot, Manhattan College senior guard/forward Monica Roeder, Marist College senior guard Leanne Ockenden, and junior guard Jasmine Martin and senior forward Brittany McQuain of Quinnipiac University.

Brittany Obi-Tabot was a member of the All-MAAC Second Team in 2012-13. The senior from Watertown, Mass. led the Stags in steals with 1.0 per contest and finished 2nd on the team with 10.5 points per game. Obi-Tabot was 6th in the MAAC in blocks with 28 and ranked 8th in offensive rebounds with 2.6 per game. The 6-1 center leads a Fairfield frontcourt that ranks at the top of the league in rebounding.  

Monica Roeder returns as Manhattan’s top scoring threat in her senior season. Roeder of Marlton, N.J. led the Jaspers and ranked 9th in the league in scoring, averaging 12.1 points per game and ranked 3rd in the MAAC with 2.0 three-pointers per contest in 2012-13. She was an All-MAAC Third Team member as well as an All-Academic squad member last year.

The 2012-13 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, Leanne Ockenden, ranked 7th in the MAAC in steals with 2.0 per contest. She led the Red Foxes with 51 three-point field goals and 19 blocks, and was 2nd with 79 assists. The senior from Syracuse, N.Y. was a member of the MAAC All-Tournament Team and was selected to the All-MAAC Third Team last year as Marist won its eighth consecutive MAAC Women’s Championship.

MAAC newcomer Jasmine Martin was selected to the 2013 NEC All-Tournament Team and was a member of the All-NEC Third Team in 2012-13. The Slickerville, N.J. native ranked 2nd for the Bobcats with 12.9 points per game and 3rd with 1.5 steals per contest. A junior guard, Martin returns to 2013 NCAA qualifier Quinnipiac as the top three-point shooter making 51 three-pointers last year.  

2013 NEC Tournament MVP and All-NEC Second Team member Brittany McQuain led the Quinnipiac Bobcats with 8.3 rebounds per game and finished 3rd on the team with 11.2 points per game last season. The senior forward from Independence, Mo. started in all 33 games for Quinnipiac in the 2012-13 season. McQuain will look to guild Quinnipiac back to the NCAA tournament in 2014. 

The MAAC will announce the 2013-14 MAAC Women’s Basketball Preseason All-MAAC First Team tomorrow.
