Edison, N.J. – Quinnipiac University’s Niamh Ashe and Brendan Copley have been named this week’s MAAC Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Runners of the Week, for the week of October 16th.
Racing from Franklin Park in downtown Boston, the Bobcats' freshman Niamh Ashe posted an 11th place finish out of 283 competitors and landed a spot on the All-New England team this past week at the New England Cross Country Championships. Ashe makes it four straight events in which she has placed first among the Bobcat contingent. Her finishing time of 17:49 represented the second-fastest time among all freshmen competitors. The Quinnipiac women's cross country team finished an impressive 6th overall out of 43 teams.
Sophomore Brendan Copley, also from Quinnipiac, continues his strong running this season to lead the Bobcats to a 20th place result out of 41 teams on Saturday at the New England Championships at Franklin Park. Copley now makes it five-for-five this season finishing as the Bobcats' top runner. Racing in his first career New England Champion event, Copley was able to find his way through a crowded field of 279 competitors to take the 20th place result, clocking in at 24:58. Barely missing out on an All-New England honor, Copley also finished with the third-fastest time among all sophomore competitors.
The 2013 MAAC Cross Country Championships will be held on Friday, November 1st at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y.
