ANTOINE MASON, Niagara

Antoine Mason poured in a team-high 25 points to give Niagara a 92-81 victory over local rival Buffalo. Mason sank 8-of-14 from the field, including 2-of-2 from beyond the three-point arc, and also added 7-of-11 from the free throw line. Mason, who played the entire game, helped the Purple Eagles snap a four-game losing streak against one of their local rivals. Mason’s effort came in Niagara’s home opener, and it was also the first victory for first-year head coach Chris Casey. Mason, who was a preseason All-MAAC first team selection, has now scored 20 or more points in five straight games dating back to last season, and is averaging 27.0 points per game in the Purple Eagles’ two contests.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
KASIM CHANDLER, Quinnipiac
Fr., G, 5-10, 160, Newark, N.J./Imani
Kasim Chandler averaged 16 points and 4.5 assists per game in a 1-1 week for Quinnipiac. He scored a team-high 19 points in the Bobcats’ narrow loss at La Salle on ESPN2 as part of ESPN’s 24 Hour Tip-Off Marathon. He hit 9-of-10 shots from the free throw line, grabbed three rebounds and had two steals against the Explorers. Against Albany in a 79-69 victory for Quinnipiac, Chandler scored 13 points and added two rebounds, a block and a steal. Chandler’s five assists were a game high. Chandler is averaging 27 minutes per game coming off the bench for Quinnipiac, and contributing 14.3 points per game.
