Saint Peterís Swimmers & Canisius Divers Take Home MAAC Weekly Swimming & Diving Awards

Edison, N.J. – Jonathan Gomez of Saint Peter’s University was named the MAAC men's swimmer of the week, while Matea Samardzic, another Peacock, earned the award on the women's side.  The Golden Griff’s MAAC divers of the week are Eddie Quarantillo for the men and Audrey Mulhisen for the women.

 Gomez, a freshman, won two individual events in a tri meet against MAAC rival Manhattan and Montclair State. The freshman won the 200 Individual Medley in a time of 1:57.93, while also taking first place in the 100 back finishing in 52.83. Gomez also swam the opening leg of the second-place 200-medley relay on Friday which posted a finishing time of 1:40.33.

Matea Samardzic helped Saint Peter’s sweep all 11 events in their tri meet against MAAC rival Manhattan and Montclair State on Friday after winning two individual events and helping the team to relay win. Samardzic, also a freshman, won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:56.44 and the 100 back where she finished in 58.30. Samardzic then capped the sweep by swimming the opening leg of the winning 200-free relay that posted a time 1:43.47.

 The Griff’s junior diver Eddie Quarantillo continued his impressive season. For the sixth-consecutive meet, Quarantillo won the 3-meter dive, posting a score of 310.75 on the high board. Quarantillo also won the 1-meter dive in the meet with a score of 281.00, marking the fourth time this season that he has taken the top-spot on both boards.

 Audrey Mulhisen, a sophomore, took the win in the 3-meter dive. Mulhisen posted a 259.30, which is just 0.10 shy of her own school record in the event. It was the second time this season that she has won the event. Mulhisen also dove to a second place finish in the 1-meter event, posting a score of 231.10.
