Iona and Manhattan to Participate in ESPNís 24-Hour College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon

EDISON, N.J. – Iona College and Manhattan College will both participate in ESPN’s 24-hour College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon on Tuesday November 18.

“It is great that MAAC schools have agreed to participate in ESPN’s 24-hour College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon, which for fans has become the official start of the college basketball season,” notes Richard J. Ensor, Commissioner of the MAAC. “The MAAC is looking forward to the 2014-15 season as the league builds on its strong 2014 postseason success and begins a new year which all teams want to see end at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. with a MAAC Championship Trophy and an automatic bid to NCAA March Madness!”

2013-14 MAAC Regular Season Champions, Iona College will travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to face Wofford College at 7:00am ET on ESPN2. The Gaels finished the 2013-14 season with a 22-11 (17-3 MAAC) mark and fourth straight postseason appearance with a spot in the National Invitational Tournament (NIT). Iona returns All-MAAC First Team member A.J. English and All-MAAC Second Team selection David Laury. English, a junior guard from Wilmington, DE, ranked fifth in the league in scoring averaging 17.7 points per game, and third in assists dishing out 4.3 per contest. The senior forward Laury, ranked fourth in the MAAC in rebounding registering 8.3 boards per game and second in field goal percentage, shooting 54.9 percent from the field.    

2013-14 MAAC Tournament Champions, Manhattan College will be headed to Massachusetts to open up the season against UMass at 11:00am ET on ESPN2. The Jaspers 2013-14 campaign saw a 25-8 (15-5 MAAC) record and the school’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since the 2004 season. In the NCAA Tournament, the Jaspers fell 71-64 to the defending national champions and eventual sweet sixteen team, Louisville. Manhattan will be led by senior forward Emmy Andujar, and junior classmates Shane Richards and Ashton Pankey in the 2014-15 season.
