EDISON, N.J. –The first weekend of women’s college soccer begins on Friday, August 22, with a full schedule of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference teams in action. Eight of the leagues eleven teams open up the season on Friday.
Quinnipiac and Siena will start the league schedule with the Bobcats at Maine and the Saints will hosts Holy Cross both at 4 p.m. Iona visits LIU Brooklyn at 6 p.m. while Manhattan hosts Wagner and Marist hosts Seton Hall both at 7 p.m. Also at 7 p.m. Canisius travels to NJIT, Fairfield will visit Army, and preseason favorite Monmouth will head to Delaware to conclude opening day.
On Sunday August 24, Canisius will face cross-town rival Buffalo at noon. At 1 p.m. Fairfield visits URI, Iona will be at Wagner, Monmouth host American, and Siena travels to UMass Lowell. The day will conclude with Manhattan at Fordham at 5 p.m.
The three MAAC teams that will not be in action opening weekend include; Rider who travels to Seton Hall on Monday, August 25 at 7 p.m., Saint Peter’s will host Lafayette on Tuesday, August 26 at 7 p.m., and Niagara on Wednesday, August 27 visits St. Bonaventure at 7 p.m.
The 2014-15 academic year’s first installment of weekly awards will be announced on Monday, August 25. The league will select an offensive player, defensive player, and rookie of the week each week until the MAAC Championship.
The 2014 Women’s Soccer Championship will also in introduce the new 6-team format championship. The championship will start on November 1 with the No. 3 seed and No. 4 seed hosting at their institutions. The following week, the No. 1 seed will host the semifinals and finals on November 7 and 9.
