Marist's Rebekah Hand Named All-Met Division I Women's Basketball Rookie of the Year

EDISON, NJ – Marist College freshman guard Rebekah Hand has been named the All-Met Division I Women’s Basketball Rookie of the year, announced on Tuesday by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association.
Hand was also honored as the unanimous Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Year and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Rookie of the Year. The Argyle, TX native was named MAAC Rookie of the Week eight times this season and earned the honor five weeks in a row (November 21-December 19). Hand was a unanimous selection to the MAAC All-Rookie Team.
The freshman averaged 13.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game in 32 starts for Marist. The guard led MAAC freshmen in scoring, rebounding, defensive rebounds per game (4.6), and minutes per game (36.0).
Hand scored a career-high 32 points on 13-of-20 shooting from the field in the Red Foxes first round matchup with Saint Peter’s University in the 2017 MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship. Her 32-point performance marks the most points scored by a player from Marist in a MAAC postseason game since Erica Allenspach scored 34 points versus Siena College on March 5, 2011.
She ranked ninth in the league in scoring (13.7 ppg), eighth in rebounding (6.8 rpg), tied for sixth in assists (3.0 apg), tied for fourth in free-throw percentage (79.7%), tied for fifth in assist/turnover ratio (1.0), tied for eighth in defensive rebounds per game (4.6), and fourth in minutes played (36.0).
