2017 MAAC Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships Set to Begin This Weekend

Edison, NJ – The 2017 MAAC Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships will take place this Saturday and Sunday, May 6-7, at Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ.  This two-day event will host 10 MAAC institutions and showcase over 300 student-athletes in over 20 events.

After claiming the 2017 Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship, the Broncs of Rider University will look to knock off the three time defending champions Monmouth University and claim their first Outdoor Championship title since 2013.  Rider University was selected preseason favorites to win the championship, according to a vote of the league's head coaches.  The Broncs are led by Junior Tyree Adams who won the Most Outstanding Performer in Track Events at the 2017 Indoor Championships and Senior Johnathan Jackson who holds the top time in the MAAC in the 800m.

Monmouth University will also look to make it four straight Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship this weekend.  Last year, the Hawk's finished 102 points higher than second place finisher Manhattan College.  On the track side, Monmouth is led by freshman Peter Guerriero and Junior Bryan Sosoo who both received Male Outdoor Track Performers of Week awards and on the field side, they are led by junior Corey Murphy and sophomore Michael Pepper who also earned Male Outdoor Field Performers of the Week awards this year.

On the Women's side, Monmouth University will try to make it four straight Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship.  The Hawks were selected as preseason favorites to win the championship, according to a vote of the league's head coaches.  Last year, the Hawks finished 70 points ahead of second place finisher, Quinnipiac University. The Hawks will be led by seniors Tionna Garner & Jenna Cupp, who are both a part of the Women's 4x800m Relay team that currently holds the fastest time in the MAAC.  On the field side, Monmouth University will be led by senior Faith Blamon & junior Stephanie Roones who were awarded Female Outdoor Field Performers of the Week awards this year.

            The Championships kick off on Saturday at 1:00pm with the women's hammer throw, long jump, & pole vault.  On Sunday, the championships will resume action at 10:00am with the women's high jump and men's triple jump & shot put.  Tickets for either day of the Championships can be found here.
