No. 3 Bethune-Cookman defeated No. 4 Marist College, 4-2, in Game three of the 2017 NCAA Gainesville Regional. With the loss, the Red Foxes have been eliminated from the 2017 NCAA Baseball Championship.

2017 MAAC Pitcher of the Year, junior Charlie Jerla (9-2) took the loss. Jerla tossed 6.1 innings, allowed four runs, earned, on four hits. He struck out four and walked three in the 104-pitch effort. Junior Mike Coss pitched 0.2 innings of scoreless relief and recorded one strikeout. Senior Ryan Thomas pitched a scoreless eighth inning, his first outing since May 19.

Sophomore shortstop Randy Taveras went 3-4 with a solo home run, his fourth of the season in the top of the eighth inning. Taveras accounted for three of the six hits that the Red Foxes registered in the game. The sophomore hit .625 (5-8), with one home run, three RBI, and one run scored in two games during the Gainesville Regional.

Sophomore outfielder Frankie Gregoire drove in the game's first run with a sacrifice fly to rightfield in the top of the first inning. Red-shirt senior outfielder Matt Pagano went 1-3 with a walk and a strikeout in the loss. Pagano extended his hitting streak to five games, he is hitting .368 (7-19) with one home run and five RBI over the stretch.

The Red Foxes finished the 2017 season (32-23, 16-8 MAAC), their best overall mark since 2011.

Bethune-Cookman starter Tyler Norris (9-1) earned the win. He tossed a complete game, his third of the season, allowed two runs, earned, on six hits. Norris struck out seven and walked two.

Jameel Edney went 1-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored for the Wildcats. Edney homered in the bottom of the fifth inning to give Bethune-Cookman a 3-1 lead. Nate Sterijevski went 1-4 with two RBI. Sterijevski drove in a pair of runs with a single in the bottom of the first inning.

Each of the 16 Regionals features four teams, playing a double-elimination format. The Regionals are scheduled to be conducted from Friday, June 2, to Monday, June 5 (if necessary). The 71st Men's College World Series begins play Saturday, June 17, at the TD Ameritrade Park Omaha in Omaha, NB.
