No. 1 University of Florida has defeated No. 4 Marist College, 10-6, in Game two of the 2017 NCAA Gainesville Regional. The Red Foxes play Bethune-Cookman in an elimination game, tomorrow, June 3 at 12:00 p.m. on ESPN3. The 2017 NCAA Gainesville Regional is hosted by Florida at Alfred A. Mckethan Stadium.  

Marist senior starter Sean Keenan (6-1) took the loss. He tossed 4.1 innings, allowed seven runs, five earned, on five hits. He struck out three and walked five. 2017 MAAC Baseball Championship MVP, junior Tony Romanelli pitched 2.2 innings in relief, surrendered two runs, earned, on two hits. Romanelli struck out three and walked one.

Red-shirt junior Scott Boches pitched 0.1 innings, allowed one run, earned, on one hit. He entered the game with two outs and runners on first and second in the bottom of the eighth inning. Boches allowed a three-run home run to Florida's JJ Schwarz. Two of the three runs were charged to Romanelli.

Five batters recorded at least two hits for the Red Foxes. Senior outfielder Tyler Kirkpatrick went 2-5 with a double and two runs scored. Sophomore shortstop Randy Taveras went 2-4 with two RBI. The sophomore drove in two runs with a single to centerfield in the top of the sixth inning.

Red-shirt senior outfielder Matt Pagano drove in the game's first run with a single to centerfield in the top of the second inning. Pagano went 2-4 with a RBI and one run scored. The red-shirt senior is hitting .375 (6-16) with one home run and five RBI over his last four games.

The Red Foxes tallied three runs in the top of the third inning. Two of the three runs scored by Marist were on errors committed by Florida. Sophomore outfielder Frankie Gregoire plated the Red Foxes' fourth run of the game with a sacrifice fly to centerfield.

Marist hit .286 (6-21) with runners on base, .214 (3-14) with runners in scoring position, and did not record a hit with two outs (0-7).

Schwarz and Mike Rivera each collected three RBI apiece for the Gators. Jackson Kowar (12-0) earned the win for Florida. He pitched 5.1 innings, allowed five runs, two earned, on eight hits. He struck out four and walked one. Michael Byrne notched his 15th save of the season for the Gators. Byrne tossed 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, surrendered one hit, and struck out three.

About the 2017 NCAA Baseball Championship:

Each of the 16 Regionals features four teams, playing a double-elimination format. The Regionals are scheduled to be conducted from Friday, June 2, to Monday, June 5 (if necessary). Selection of the eight Super Regional Hosts will be announced on, Monday, June 5 at approximately 11 p.m. (ET).
The 71st Men's College World Series begins play Saturday, June 17, at the TD Ameritrade Park Omaha in Omaha, NB.
