Arquimedes DelaCruz has been a solid performer for the Marist men's cross country and track & field teams for the previous three seasons, and is serving as co-captain on this year's cross country team. Running in his first meet of the season at the Stony Brook "Wolfie" Invitational on Sept. 15, DelaCruz placed eighth overall in a field which also included Wisconsin (ranked #1 in the country) and Providence (ranked #4 in the Northeast). He has earned All-MAAC honors the last three years, and IC4A All-East honors in cross country the last two. In outdoor track & field last season, he had the best steeplechase finish in school history (14th) at the IC4A Championships. A Digital Media major, DelaCruz has been a member of the MAAC All-Academic Team for the past two years.
Mikelle Cala, Canisius College
Cross Country, Jr., 5-4, Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore
Junior Mikelle Cala is off to a strong start in 2012, finishing as Canisius' top-finisher in each race this season. At the Little Three Championship, Cala placed second overall with a time of 19:25 to lead the Griffs to their sixth consecutive team title over St. Bonaventure and MAAC opponent Niagara. This weekend, the junior finished 46th among 265 runners at the National Catholic Championship with a time of 18:51, as the team finished 15th out of 37 teams. As a sophomore and freshman, she placed in the Griffs' top-five finishers in each of the team's 13 total races. In her freshman year, the Derby, N.Y. native captured the women's Little Three individual championship with a time of 18:07, while finishing 11th at the MAAC Championships. Majoring in biology, she currently holds a 3.48 GPA.
