Men's Swimming, Jr., Backstroke & IM, Brantford, Ont./Political Science
Junior Alex Siuda has begun the 2012-13 season on a strong note for the Niagara men's swimming team, finding success within the individual and medley events. The Brantford, Ont. native has been a pivotal member of the freestyle relay teams, nabbing third place in the 400-yard freestyle during the dual-meet against Gannon and Cleveland State on Oct. 27, while adding another third place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay during the All Catholic Invitational at Boston College from Oct. 19-20. Siuda also helped the Purps place fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay during the All Catholic Invite. Individually, Siuda has grabbed second place finishes in the 400-yard IM as well as the 200-yard backstroke. Siuda was an All-MAAC Academic Team honoree during the 2011-12 season after earning a 3.30 grade-point average. He is currently majoring in the political science.
Kara Reis - Fairfield University
Volleyball, Sr., L, 5-9, Ramona, Calif./Poway
Over a 10-day span, senior Kara Reis led the Stags to the 2012 MAAC Championship and an NCAA Championship appearance. Fairfield defeated Siena College, 3-2, in a come-from-behind win, capturing a MAAC crown on the Stags home court. Reis then led the Stags in their first NCAA Championship appearance in more than a decade at USC where she recorded nine digs against the fourth-ranked Women of Troy. Reis left an indelible mark on the program, finishing the year with 591 digs to set the single season record and will graduate as the program leader in career digs (1,947) and career digs per set (4.40). In the classroom, Reis sports a 3.19 GPA and is majoring in communications.
