New York, N.Y. - The Manhattan College men's team captured its 16th straight title at the 2012 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championship at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center in New York City.
The Jaspers won the meet with a team score of 177. Rider University finished second with 117 points. Saint Peter's College was third with 98, followed by Iona College (89) and Marist College (13).
Iona's Jake Byrne set a new standard in the men's 5,000-meters with a time of 14:27.36.
Iona's Mitch Goose got the crowd on its feet with a blistering, record time 3:59.26 in the men's mile. It was the first sub-four minute mile in the MAAC Championship and the second in Iona program history. Goose was named the meet's Most Outstanding Performer for Track Events.
Saint Peter's Isaiah Harris was chosen as the Most Outstanding Performer for Field Events. Harris won the high jump (2.09m) and triple jump (15.55m).
New to the MAAC Championship in 2012 was the running of the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles for both the men and women, replacing the 55-meter equivalents in order to match the NCAA Championships. The winners of each of those races have now set the standard for future conference championships.
