In the bottom of the first inning, the Bears (51-4) scored three runs, as Britt Vonk scored on a passed ball and Breana Kostreba hit a two-run homer to right center.
Cal then added five more runs in the fifth, starting with Frani Echavarria scoring when Jamia Reid reached first on a throwing error. Reid then later scored off a single by Vonk, and Vonk crossed home plate thanks to a single by Kostreba to center field. With one out and the bases loaded, Danielle Henderson was hit by a pitch, bringing in Valerie Arioto. Echavarria then singled to second base to allow Jace Williams to score the final run of the night.
Sarah Jackson was the starting pitcher for the Gaels, giving up six earned runs in four innings of work while striking out two batters. Alyssa Maiese finished the contest with two strikeouts over 0.2 innings in the circle for the Maroon and Gold. Cal's Jolene Henderson fanned seven batters and gave up just two hits in five innings pitched for the Bears.
Iona will take on Boston University (40-14) in an elimination game on Saturday, May 19 at 8:00 p.m.
