SANTA MONICA, Calif. - Senior Jay Mulieri has been named to the PING All-Northeast Region Team, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

Mulieri, a native of Silver Spring, Md., becomes the first all-region selection for head coach Chris Baloga. He is also the first Greyhound to be honored since his brother Mike was a member of the All-Mid-Atlantic Team in 2008.

The 2012 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Individual Champion, Mulieri is the lone MAAC player to receive all-region recognition this season. He led Loyola to its fifth-straight MAAC title this year, shooting 4-under 212 to lead the team to a tournament record 4-over 868 and the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA regionals.

With the individual conference title, Mulieri became the 10th Greyhound to be named the recipient of the McLeod Memorial Award. He also joined his brother, Mike, the 2008 and 2009 MAAC Champion, in becoming the first pair of brothers to win individual conference titles.

For the season, Mulieri led Loyola with a 71.83 stroke average, ranking 67th nationally. He played in all 12 tournaments for the Greyhounds and was Loyola’s low scorer eight times, including winning the Fireline Towson Invitational and losing the Hartford Invitational in a playoff.

The 2009 MAAC Rookie of the Year, Mulieri swept all four MAAC Golfer of the Month honors this year, in September, October, March and April, and finished his career as the school’s record holder for stroke average.

A total of 155 players from across six regions nationwide – Northeast, East, Southeast, Midwest, Central and West – earned all-region honors for 2012. Mulieri is among 25 players to be honored from the Northeast.
