Texas Tops Rider, 11-0

AUSTIN, Texas - The No. 3 Texas Longhorns scored all 11 of their runs with two outs in an 11-0 win over the Rider Broncs in NCAA Austin Regional action at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
Brandon Workman (12-1) pitched his second shutout of the season. He scattered six hits and three walks while striking out seven over nine innings. He allowed just two hits through the first seven innings. It marked the ninth shutout of the season for the Longhorns.
On offense, Texas tallied all of its runs with two outs. Brandon Loy, in his first game back after missing five contests with an injury, went 3-for-3 with one walk, one triple, two runs and one RBI. Cohl Walla went 2-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base. Cameron Rupp and Jordan Etier hit two-run home runs and Russell Moldenhauer added a three-run dinger. Kevin Keyes contributed a two-run single.
The Longhorns drew first blood in the bottom of the third inning, starting a rally with two outs. Walla poked a single through the left side of the infield, and Loy hit a wall-banger to leftfield for an RBI single. The lead increased to 2-0 with a Tant Shepherd single to rightfield, and Rupp capped the four-run outburst hitting a two-run home run off the H-E-B sign in leftfield.
Texas tacked on two more runs in the home half of the fourth. Moldenhauer was hit by a pitch to start the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kevin Lusson. After Connor Rowe flied out to leftfield, Etier deposited a 2-0 offering into the visitor's bullpen in leftfield to stake the Horns to a 6-0 advantage.
The Longhorns inflated the cushion to 11-0 with five runs in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Walla singled through the right side and stole second base. Loy walked to put a pair on and after Shepherd struck out swinging, a wild pitch put both runners in scoring position. Rupp walked to load the bases. Keyes singled through the left side to push two runs across and Moldenhauer hit a moon shot to rightfield to drive in the final three runs of the game.
Mike Thomas (9-3) was saddled with the loss for the Broncs. He allowed nine runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out four over 6.2 innings.
Texas returns to action on Saturday with a 6:30 p.m. contest against the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns. The winner of Saturday's night game advances to Sunday's championship game. Rider will take on Rice at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
