MAAC Announces Men's Basketball All-Rookie Team

EDISON, N.J. - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announces the 2011-2012 All-MAAC Men's Basketball Rookie Team, selected by the MAAC's head coaches.

The team is made up of Emmy Andujar of Manhattan College, Chavaugn Lewis of Marist College, Juan'ya Green and Antoine Mason of Niagara University, and Evan Hymes of Siena College. One of these five players will be named the 2011-2012 MAAC Rookie of the Year, also selected by the head coaches of the league. The winner will be announced on Thursday, March 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Postseason Awards Show located at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The show will be broadcast live on MAAC.TV.

Andujar, a 6-foot-5, 205-pound freshman forward from the Bronx, N.Y., averaged 8.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game for the Jaspers this season. He posted double figures in 12 contests. Andujar earned two MAAC Rookie of the Week awards this season.

Lewis, a 6-foot-5, 185-pound freshman guard/forward from Queens, N.Y., contributed 13.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game in his first season with the Red Foxes. He posted 25 double-digit performances, including the last 18 contests of the regular season. Lewis claimed three MAAC Rookie of the Week honors this season.

Green, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound freshman guard from Philadelphia, Pa., led all active freshmen in scoring during the regular season with 17.5 points per game (third overall in scoring). He also contributed 4.4 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.8 steals an outing for the Purple Eagles. Green recorded 27 double-digit scoring performances during his freshman campaign and was named MAAC Rookie of the Week twice for his efforts.

Mason, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound redshirt-freshman guard from Queens, N.Y., averaged 15.4 points per game, good for seventh place on the MAAC scoring chart. He also contributed 4.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.3 steals per game over 31 games played for the Purple Eagles. Additionally, Mason registered 27 double-digit scoring efforts and earned two MAAC Rookie of the Week honors.

Hymes, a 5-foot-8, 147-pound freshman guard from Durham, N.C., led all freshmen in three-point field goal percentage, netting 36.3 percent of his attempts from behind the arc. He also averaged 13.9 points and 3.4 assists per game for the Saints. Hymes claimed the MAAC Rookie of the Week award four times this season.
