Marist Closes Out Season with 6-1 Loss at Boston College

Newton, Mass. - The Marist College women's soccer team concluded its 2011 season with a 6-1 loss at Boston College in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship.

The Eagles (12-5-2) struck first in the 21st minute as junior forward Victoria DiMartino netted a shot from six yards out to the top of the net for her fourth goal of the season. Four minutes later, junior midfielder Kristen Mewis converted a direct kick from 20 yards out to give BC a 2-0 lead. Sophomore forward Gibby Wagner capped off the Eagles' scoring effort in the first half when she posted a shot from 16 yards out into the left side of the net in the 42nd minute.

The Red Foxes (13-6-2) got on the scoreboard in the second half as senior co-captain Kathryn Hannis headed in a pass from sophomore midfielder Samantha Panzner in the 48th minute. Boston College responded with its fourth goal of the afternoon 10 minutes later, as senior midfielder Julia Bouchelle recorded a shot into the left side of the net from about eight yards out. Wagner later scored her second goal of the afternoon, heading in the ball on the right side in the 62nd minute to give the Eagles a 5-1 lead. In the 66th minute, freshman forward Stephanie McCaffrey beat out the Marist keeper and tapped in the ball from three yards out to make it 6-1 in favor of Boston College.

Junior Caitlin Landsman started in goal for Marist and recorded three saves in 45 minutes of action. Freshman Andrea Wicks played the second half in goal for the Red Foxes. Boston College's Jillian Mastroianni and Jessica Mickelson each played 45 minutes between the pipes. Mastroianni, who started the contest, registered one save for the Eagles.
