Lawrenceville, NJ - Rider won the 2011 MAAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship with a team score of 272. It is the first MAAC Championship, indoor or outdoor, for the Broncs.
Manhattan, which entered the championship having won 13 straight team titles, finished second with 172.66. Saint Peter's was third with 101.33, followed by Iona (62) and Marist (38).
Rider's David Hightower set a new MAAC Championship record in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.39. Manhattan's Colin Quirke broke a 13-year-old record in the men's discus with a throw of 54.86-meters.
Rider's Christian Gonzalez was selected as the Most Outstanding Performer for Track Events. He won the 800-meters in 1:50.62, narrowly missing the MAAC record. Gonzalez also finished second in the 1500-meters (3:45.50). The Manhattan duo of Quirke and Roman Ewald took home Co-Most Outstanding Performers for Field Events. In addition to his record setting performance in the discus, Quirke won the shot put with a distance of 16.35-meters. Ewald won the hammer throw with a toss of 56.24-meters, finished second in the shot put and discus, and fourth in the javelin.
