Iona’s Liam Dee Advances To 2017 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship Mile Final

COLLEGE STATION, TX – Iona College distance runner Liam Dee advanced to the 2017 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship final with an eighth place finish in the preliminary race tonight. Dee recorded a time of 4:00.72 in the second heat of the race. His mile time placed him eighth out of 16 participants and is one of the top 10 runners to advance to tomorrow’s Championship Final.
Dee’s sub-four-minute mile at the BU Last Chance Meet qualified him for the Championship. His time of 3:58.19, ranks 12th in the NCAA, earned him placement in the second heat of the event in lane seven. Dee competes against some of the fastest athlete’s in the nation, with every individual competing having run a sub-four-minute qualifying mile.
Oregon senior Edward Cheserek registered the best time in the preliminary race with a mark of 3:59.30. Teammate, sophomore Matthew Maton was right behind in second place with a time of 3:59.73. The top five runners were all separated be less than a second. Dee finished behind Syracuse senior Adam Palamar (4:00.71).
Day two of the Championships airs live on ESPN3 tomorrow at 4:55 p.m., with the Championship race slated to begin at 5:10 p.m. On Sunday, March 12, ESPN2 will be re-airing the championships at 7:00 p.m.
