Olivia Brooks & Jasmine Walker Named as MAAC Honorees for 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year Award

EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has selected Fairfield University’s Olivia Brooks and Monmouth University’s Jasmine Walker as its conference honorees for the 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

Brooks, a 2016 graduate of Fairfield University served as the women’s golf captain for the Stags. Brooks was Fairfield’s top finisher at the 2016 MAAC Championships, finishing in sixth place to garner All-MAAC distinction. She received Dean’s List and MAAC All-Academic Honors as a Biology Pre-Med major with a minor in Mathematics. She is a two-time WGCA All-American Scholar, she also was Vice President of Fairfield’s chapter of Alpha Epsilon Delta, the Health Professions Honor Society.

Walker, a 2016 graduate of Monmouth University, earned her Masters of Business Administration with a 3.74 grade point average as a captain of the Hawks women’s basketball team. Walker is a three-time MAAC All-Academic team member and graduated with the highest degree in economics and finance at Monmouth, earning magna cum laude honors.

There are 142 total female student-athletes nominated for the 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. Two of the honorees also will represent the United States at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

In early September, the Woman of the Year selection committee will name the Top 30 honorees, representing the top 10 women in each division. The selection committee will then choose and announce the nine finalists, with three from each division, at the end of September. Then, from the pool of nine finalists, the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics will determine the 2016 Woman of the Year.

The Top 30 honorees will be celebrated and the 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year will be named at the annual banquet Oct. 16 in Indianapolis.

The NCAA Woman of the Year program has recognized graduating female student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, community service and leadership since its inception in 1991.
