Quinnipiac University Repeats as 2017 MAAC Women’s Golf Champions

WOMEN'S PLAYER LEADERBOARD

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – Quinnipiac University Women’s golf team maintained its number one spot on the leaderboard to win its second Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) golf championship in program history. The Bobcats entered the final round at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, FL just five-strokes ahead of the University at Albany with a score of 307.

Freshman Alexandra Sazhin maintained the leader position finishing the tournament with rounds of 80, 73, and 78 to finish 231 (+15) and secured the Rookie of the Year Award, Most Outstanding Women’s Performer, and the McLeod Trophy. Sazhin finished +6 today with one birdie and eight overall.   

Senior Paige Fujihara of the University at Albany finished today +8 with an overall score of 233 just two-strokes shy of the top spot. Fujihara and Sazhin shuffled between the tops spot throughout the championship. Senior Kristen Bromley of Siena College finished +6 today (235), which landed her tied for third with Helga Einarsdottir of Albany +2 (235).

The Bobcats finished with 939 points overall, followed by Albany (945), and Monmouth University (961). In fourth place was Dayton University (975), Siena (1006), and Hartford University (1011). In seventh place is Niagara University (1012), Fairfield University (1039), and La Salle University (1233) finished in ninth place.

Quinnipiac head coach John O’Connor was named the 2017 Women’s Coach of the Year.

Quinnipiac will receive an automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf
Championship. The 2017 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship selection show will be televised on the Golf Channel, Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.
