Siena College Selected as 2017 Men’s Golf Preseason Favorite

EDISON, NJ – The 2016 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Champions, Siena College was selected as the 2017 MAAC Golf Preseason favorite according to a vote by the leagues nine head coaches.

The Saints and the Manhattan College Jaspers were tied after three rounds of golf in the 2016 MAAC Men’s Golf Championship with a score of 890. The Saints won the one-hole playoff two strokes ahead of Manhattan to claim the 2016 MAAC Men’s Golf Championship for the first time since 2007.

Siena finished the fall season with two third place finishes. September Golfer of the Month, senior Scott Kim returns for the Saints. Kim finished tied for eighth overall at the Cornell Invitational this past fall with a final score of 73. Kim also made the pivotal putt on the first playoff hole to help his team go on to win the 2016 MAAC Men’s Golf Championship.

Three teams received at least one first place vote by the league’s head coaches. Manhattan was selected second in the Coaches’ Preseason Poll with 68 points. Fairfield University came in third with 54 points, followed by Iona College with 53 points. Rider University placed fifth with 39 points. Saint Peter’s University came in sixth place with 37 points followed by Monmouth University with 31 points. Rounding out the 2017 Men’s Golf Preseason Coaches’ poll are Niagara University with 27 points and Canisius College with 18 points.
