Rider's Lynn Milligan Named All-Met Division I Women's Basketball Coach of the Year
Release: April 25, 2017
EDISON, NJ – Rider University Women’s Basketball head coach Lynn Milligan has been named the 2016-17 All-Met Division I Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year, announced on Tuesday by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association.
Earlier this year, Milligan was honored as The Rock MAAC Women’s Basketball Head Coach of the Year. The 10th year head coach became the first Rider Women’s Basketball head coach to capture the award.
She led the Broncs to a (24-9, 16-4 MAAC) mark and reached the MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship game for the first time in program history. Rider earned an automatic qualifier to the 2017 Postseason WNIT, their first-ever appearance in the national tournament.
Milligan guided the Broncs to 24 wins overall this season and 16 in conference play. The 24 wins are the most since the program tallied 26 victories in the 1981-82 season and the 16 MAAC wins are the most by a team in Broncs history. Rider claimed the number two seed in this year’s MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship, its highest seed in history.
The Broncs had four student-athletes receive All-MAAC honors under Milligan’s guidance this season. Senior guard Robin Perkins was named the MAAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Year and was the only unanimous selection to the All-MAAC First Team. Junior guard Kamila Hoskova was selected to the All-MAAC Second Team and senior center Julia Duggan received All-MAAC Third Team honors. Freshman guard Stella Johnson was selected to the MAAC All-Rookie Team.
On February 21, Rider ranked No. 23 overall in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 Poll, the highest rank in program history. Milligan earned her 100th victory with Rider on January 19, a 56-43 victory over Saint Peter’s University.
