Olivia Pitonzo registered 10 points on four goals and six assists in Marist’s two games against Big South competition this week. She scored on all four of her shots on goal in the Red Foxes’ 15-9 win at reigning two-time Big South champion Winthrop on March 17. Pitonzo followed up by tying her career-high of five assists in a 15-12 loss at High Point. She scored on her only free position attempt of the week and complied an .800 shot on goal percentage.
Hailey Wagner broke Marist’s single-game draw control record, winning 15 when the Red Foxes defeated two-time reigning Big South Champion Winthrop, 15-9, on March 17. The old mark of 13 belonged to Jamie Romano, who achieved the feat in 2014. Wagner led a Marist defense that held the Eagles to 1-of-11 on free position attempts. The Red Foxes’ 19 draw controls in the contest were the most since they had 20 against Manhattan last season. In a three-goal loss at High Point on March 19, Wagner had 10 draw controls and picked up a ground ball.
Samantha Mehalick averaged seven shots and 3.50 goals per game for Marist this weekend. She scored five goals on eight shots in the Red Foxes’ 15-9 win at two-time defending Big South champion Winthrop on March 17. She also had a ground ball and a draw control in the contest. Mehalick fired three shots on goal, scoring twice against High Point on March 19. She compiled a .500 shot percentage and a .714 shots on goal percentage in the two games. Mehalick is the Red Foxes’ leading scorer this season with 20 goals.
