HARRISON, NJ – Iona College defender Jordan Scarlett signed a USL Contract with the New York Red Bulls II, which was announced by the organization on Wednesday, March 22. Scarlett was selected by the Red Bulls in the third round (61st overall) of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.
Scarlett joined Monmouth University goalkeeper Eric Klenofsky as the only two MAAC student-athletes selected in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. Scarlett became the 12th player in the conference’s history to be drafted and the first from Iona since midfielder Ignacio Maganto was selected by the LA Galaxy in 2015.
The midfielder finished his career with the Gaels 10th all-time in minutes played (1,750). Scarlett was named to the 2016 All-MAAC First Team and the 2015 All-MAAC Second Team. He was also selected to the MAAC All-Academic team three times over the course of his career.
Quote from Head Coach John Wolyniec courtesy of New York Red Bulls:
“We were excited to get Jordan in the draft,” Head Coach John Wolyniec said. “He has shown to be a guy that has a lot of talent playing for a local team, Iona College, and we’ve gotten to see him a few times. It’s great to get him with the team and hopefully we can get him moving towards an MLS contract for next year.”
