MAAC Announces 2017 Women’s Soccer All-MAAC Teams & Major Award Winners
LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced the 2017 Women’s Soccer All-MAAC Teams, and major award winners. The conference award recipients, were honored at the annual women’s soccer banquet this evening, which was held at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the Indiana Jones attraction.
Freshman forward Alex Madden is the fifth student-athlete from Fairfield University to claim MAAC Rookie of the Year honors. Madden led the Stags in points (12) and goals (six) during the regular season. Her six goals were tied for the sixth-most in the MAAC and the most among all freshmen. The forward was tied for second in the league in game-winning goals (three), sixth in shots per game (2.94), and ninth in shots (47). She recorded her first-career multi-goal game with a pair of tallies against Saint Peter’s on October 11.
Kelsey Goldring becomes the second student-athlete from Quinnipiac University to earn MAAC Rookie of the Year honors. Goldring finished the regular season tied with the fifth-most points in the league (17) and most among all freshmen. The forward registered five goals and seven assists in 17 games. Goldring ranked tied for ninth in the league in goals scored, tied for fourth in assists, and tied for second in game-winning goals. She earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors twice in 2017 (September 18 & October 2).
Graduate back Gabriella Cuevas anchored the backline for the 2017 MAAC Regular Season Champions, Monmouth University. Cuevas was the driving force behind a Hawks’ defense that posted the most shutouts in the league (10), allowed the fewest goals (13), and had the lowest goals against average (0.74). The Wayne, NJ native added three goals in 11 games for Monmouth. Cuevas’ notched a multi-goal game against Siena College on October 14 and two of her three goals this season were game-winners.
Monmouth’s Amanda Knaub earns the Goalkeeper of the Year honor after she posted a league-high 10 shutouts, which were the most in the MAAC since Hawks’ Ashley Lewis recorded 12 in 2013. Knaub’s 10 shutouts are the fourth-most in the nation through games played on October 23. The sophomore led the conference with a 0.74 goals against average, ranked second with a .829 save percentage, and sixth with 63 saves. She was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week three times this season (September 4, September 11, October 2).
Erica Modena is the first student-athlete from Manhattan College to earn the MAAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Year award. Modena ranked third in the MAAC in points (21), tied for second in goals (eight), and tied for ninth in assists (five). The forward tallied 17 points and six goals in MAAC play, which were tied for the second-most totals in each statistical category respectively. She registered a pair of multi-goal games in the regular season, including a hat-trick against Canisius College on October 11. She was second in the league in shots (61), second in shots per game (3.81), and third in points per games (1.31).
Monmouth’s Krissy Turner led Monmouth to its fifth-straight MAAC Women’s Soccer Regular Season Championship. The Hawks posted a mark of (12-3-2, 9-1 MAAC) in the regular season and secured the No. 1 overall seed in the conference championship. Turner earns her second consecutive MAAC Coach of the Year honor and her fourth in the last five years.

About the Championship:
The
2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s Soccer Championship takes place, October 28-November 1, and returns to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, in Lake Buena Vista, FL for the first time since 2013. Semifinals are played on Tuesday, October 31, at
11:00 a.m. and
2:00 p.m. from Field 17. Both games are on ESPN3. The 2017 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship game is on Wednesday, November 1, at 12:00 p.m. from Field 17 on
ESPN3.
