Player of the Week
Gabrielle Kelliher, Marist
Jr., OF, East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick
Kelliher hit .389 (7-18) with two homers, six RBI, and scored seven runs. In the first game of a doubleheader at Binghamton on March 30, her two-run homer in the fifth inning gave Marist the lead for good in its 6-5 victory. She finished the game 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Kelliher went 1-4 with an RBI in Marist’s 7-4 win in game two. In the second game of a doubleheader against Siena on April 2, she went 2-3 with two runs scored in Marist’s 10-0 win. In a 4-2 victory over Cornell in the first game of a doubleheader on April 3, Kelliher went 1-2 with two runs scored, a stolen base, and a walk. In the second game, the junior hit a three-run homer in the team’s 3-1 win.
Pitcher of the Week
Briana Matazinsky, Manhattan
Jr., P, Valley Falls, NY/Tamarac
Matazinsky went 3-0 with a 0.39 ERA last week, allowing one run in 18.0 innings. She went six innings at Sacred Heart on Wednesday, scattering four hits and walking one while striking out seven in the 9-0 victory, which was the first of four straight shutouts tossed by Manhattan pitching. Matazinsky then threw a complete game one-hitter in an 8-0 win over Rider on Sunday. The lone hit she surrendered was an infield single in the first inning, as Rider sent only three batters over the minimum to the plate in six innings. Matazinsky recorded six strikeouts in the contest. She threw another six-inning complete game against Monmouth on Monday. Matazinsky gave up one run on six hits to go along with four walks and a strikeout in the 9-0 win. She collected 15 strikeouts over the course of the three games.
Rookie of the Week
Abbey Long, Quinnipiac
Fr., P, Eau Claire, WI/Eau Claire North High School
Long went 3-0 during the week, with a 1.05 ERA with 16 strikeouts over 20.0 innings. Long tossed a three-hit, complete game effort in a 2-1 win over Hartford. Long went 6.0 innings in her start against Saint Peter’s, giving up two runs, with one walk, and five strikeouts. Long pitched a complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts against Rider on Sunday, April 3.
