Manhattan Men, Saint Peter's Women Take Day 1 Lead

Lawrenceville, N.J. - The Manhattan College men and Saint Peter's College women lead after the first day of the 2012 MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Rider University.
Manhattan leads with 71 points followed by Rider, last year's champions, second at 42. Marist College is third with 31 points. Iona College is fourth at 29 and Saint Peter's is fifth with 12 points.
Saint Peter's, the defending champions, lead with 68 points, while Rider is second (47). Iona is third at 38, followed by Manhattan (36), Marist (22), and Loyola University Maryland (20).
Iona set meet records in both the men's and women's 4x800-meter relays. Katie Niblock, Marlene Delices, Kirsten Stewart, and Heidi Gregson finished in 8:52.96 to shatter the old mark of 9:09.63. For the men, Christopher Stogsdill, Daniel Lipus, Reed Kochanek, and Mitch Goose took first in 7:36.08, over four seconds better than the standard set in 2010.
Iona's Marion Joly-Testault set a new record in the women's 10,000-meters with a time of 35:33.18, over 33 seconds faster than the previous record which stood since 2007. In the men's 10,000, Iona's Alexander Soderberg cruised to the win in 30:15.13 to set a new championship record.
The championships resume tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the men's high jump and shot put and the women's triple jump. The track events begin at noon with the 4x100-meter relays.
