Archibald and Joseph-Buadi earn Pepsi MAAC Student-Athlete of the Week Award

Senior Claire Archibald began the 2018 campaign with three straight double-double efforts at the Eastern Illinois Tournament this past weekend. The MAAC Preseason Co-Player of the Year also reached a career milestone in Iona's first game of the season against Valparaiso. Archibald had a match-high 16 kills in addition to 10 digs. Come the second game against Saint Francis (PA), Archibald recorded her 1,000
th career dig. She is just the 13
th player in program history to reach that career mark. Archibald ranks 11
th all-time in program history and is the second current student-athlete to join the ranks. Redshirt junior Jessica Paolucci garnered her 1000
th career dig in 2016. Against the Red Flash, she ended with a team-best 11 kills and 11 digs.
The Gaels wrapped up their weekend slate against Eastern Illinois, where Archibald had 12 kills and 13 digs.
Over the three-game weekend, she had a team-best 39 kills in addition to 34 digs and one block. She averaged 3.9 kills and 3.4 digs per set. Archibald recorded a .253 attack percentage.

Brandon Joseph-Buadi notched the game-winning goal in Manhattan's 3-1 victory over California Baptist in the team's home opener. Tied 1-1 in the 58
th minute, the Brighton, England native cut off a Lancers' clear attempt just outside the penalty and fired a shot past the keeper for his first goal of the season. Through the Jaspers' first two games of the year, Joseph-Buadi leads the team with seven shots, three of them on goal. He is coming off a freshman campaign where he registered four goals and three assists.
